Specialised Parenting Support

Our specialised parenting support program is delivered by experienced social workers who work alongside parents with intellectual and/or cognitive disabilities.

Our approach is person-centred, collaborative, and strengths-based, with the goal of supporting parents to build their parenting skills, knowledge, and confidence while working toward the best possible outcomes for both parents and their children.

We support parents in a range of situations, including those who:

  • Are planning to become parents
  • Currently have their children in their care
  • Do not currently have their children living with them
  • Have children in informal or formal care arrangements, including living with family members or in foster or kinship care

Our social workers are trained in the Circle of Security framework and use this approach to support parents to strengthen relationships with their children.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Have an intellectual and/or cognitive disability
  • Live in the Brisbane North or Moreton Bay region
  • Would like support to build parenting skills and navigate systems such as Child Safety or the legal system

Counselling

The Grow Together team includes accredited mental health social workers who provide counselling through NDIS or Medicare arrangements.

Our team has particular expertise in supporting young people at risk and individuals with intellectual and/or cognitive disabilities, especially where they are experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, or complex life circumstances.

We also offer counselling for individuals who speak Japanese or Mandarin.

Our Accredited Mental Health Social Workers can meet you in a location where you feel most comfortable. This may include:

  • Our office in Nundah
  • Your home
  • A community setting of your choice

The location and format of support can be discussed during your initial meeting to ensure you feel comfortable and supported as you begin counselling.
