Diminishing Their Voice Through Choice: Examining Self-Placing in Out-of-Home Care
This research delves into the phenomenon of self-placing in out-of-home care, examining how children and young people navigate decisions affecting their lives. Drawing on interviews with 11 participants in Queensland, the study sheds light on the challenges they face, including disconnection from support, heightened vulnerability, and limited participation in formal decision-making processes. Recommendations are made to improve safety, connection, and wellbeing for this group.
